Cutback

Lance Banchelder & Johnny Remo – 2010 – USA

This movie Cutback is artless, patronizing Christian propaganda, which would be forgivable only if there was a shred of cinematic validity in it, and there isn’t.  It was made by religious people.  I only watched it because there was surfing in it, and even that’s hard to enjoy when a skill for it is portrayed not as a sport but as – in the words of the hero’s mother – “a gift from God.”  The message of the movie – (and movies like this are all about the message) – seems to be that if you claim to have turned your life over to Jesus, He makes you surf good.
