Doug Ellin – 2015 – USA
Feature version of the popular HBO show of the same name is
little more than an elongated episode.
It is aimless and uninvolving, as though writer-director Ellin prepared
the script by throwing together a few leftover plot premises and then left them
to flounder instead of injecting them with anything new or interesting. Not only is it disappointing as a film, but
if it was simply an episode of the show, it would be one of the weakest. It has an air of arrogance that is
offputting; the arrogance of Ellin and producer Mark Wahlberg assuming that it
hardly mattered what they did with the movie because the fans will pay to see
it anyway.
