This is a SyFy
Channel movie that somehow got put in regular theaters for a little while. The special effects, acting and production
design are so laughably awful that they almost seem deliberately cheesy, but
not quite, which only makes it worse. This
Kellan Lutz is every bit the bland, brainless beefcake that his Herculean forebear
Steve Reeves was in the Italian peplum sword-and-sandal flicks of the 60s. It amazes me that the stop-and-start editing
style popularized by Zack Snyder’s 300
is still being clung too so desperately by all these types of films. It seems that if Renny Harlin really wanted
to rise above his hack status at all, he would take the initiative to come up
with something else to supplant this annoying style, especially since there was
not only a sequel to 300 but yet
another Hercules movie being made almost simultaneously with this film. Anyway, it’s really cheap and cruddy-looking all the
way through.
