The CGI effects are horrible and cheap. The one-liners are worse than corny; they’re
awkwardly bad. There are so many stars
crammed into it that it starts to seem like the It’s a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World of action flicks and the primary
actors actually fade into the background or literally just drop out of sight
without explanation. But guess
what? None of this matters. Everyone knows what they’re in for going in
and they get exactly that. This is
adequate, even though personally I felt that a bit more effort to elevate
everything above the hackneyed could have made this a minor classic able to
withstand repeated viewings. Instead,
it’s really just a fun guys’ movie perfect for a guys’ movie-night. Here’s the roster: Sylvester Stallone, Arnold
Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Chuck Norris, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Jet Li,
Dolph Lungren, Jason Statham, and some other people. More importantly, it’s chock full of the one
element that made the first film as cathartic and testosterone-pumping as it
was; namely, the constant shooting off of all different kinds of super loud
guns.
