Ken Russell - 1970 - England
- One of a handful of Ken Russell masterpieces he cranked out between 1966 and 1972, often about tormented artists; (in this case, Tchaikovsky).
- A love story between a repressed homosexual and a nymphomaniac, it scandalized mainstream critics at the time.
- One of Richard Chamberlain's greatest roles, and an amazing performance by the great Glenda Jackson, who had just won an Oscar that year for her work in Russell's Women in Love.
- An example of 'pure cinema;' it works completely visually, it could be a silent film.
